In the Amazon, the landscapes change throughout the year depending on whether the rivers are high or low. Both seasons are beautiful and offer their own unique experiences.
From March to August, the rivers are high. There are fewer beaches, but the abundance of water creates remarkable landscapes, such as the igapós, seasonally flooded forests that are perfect for canoeing among the treetops.
From September to February, the rivers are low. The igapós disappear, giving way to beautiful white-sand beaches that can only be enjoyed during this time of year.
Rain is one of the defining features of the Amazon and part of what makes the region so extraordinary. It is also essential to the balance of its climate.
Rain showers are usually brief and generally do not interfere with travel plans, even during the rainier season, from November to January. From August to October, rainfall is lower and temperatures tend to be higher.
The Rio Negro region is known for having fewer insects than many other parts of the Amazon. This is mainly due to the water’s high acidity, which limits mosquito reproduction.
Insects are still present, but they are generally not a major issue. We provide natural insect repellent during the trip.
Accommodation is provided in partner guesthouses with everything needed for a comfortable stay. All rooms are private en suites and equipped with either a fan or air conditioning.
Only a few lodging options have electric showers, which is usually not an issue due to the warm climate.
Children up to 3 years and 11 months travel free of charge. Children between 4 and 8 years old pay half price. From the age of 9, the full price applies.
There are no vaccination requirements for entering the state of Amazonas. There have been no cases of yellow fever or malaria in our region for many years.
Only the Serras Guerreiras itinerary requires proof of yellow fever vaccination, as the journey enters Indigenous Lands and this is a FUNAI requirement.
